We have already given you the info on the latest & greatest changes in Photoshop CS6, but Adobe is also rolling out an updated version of their other flagship tools: InDesign & Illustrator.

In this post we take a look at the best new features of InDesign & Illustrator CS6 to help you decide whether to upgrade to Creative Suite CS6 this summer. Take a look at our Creative Suite CS6 blog post to find out which payment options are available.

Illustrator CS6 Pattern Creation Tool

llustrator CS6 comes with a new pattern editing mode. This allows you to select an object and turn it into a pattern. As you edit the object, the entire pattern is edited.

Pet Photography Tips: Getting the Perfect Picture of your Pooch

Here at Silicon Beach Training, we are big fans of Rhian White’s dog photography so we asked for some tips on getting the perfect pooch picture. We think you will agree that the following post is crammed full of them so have a read and then go and take your dog for a walk with your camera! Once you’ve captured your images you will want to use Photoshop to get them ready for print.

Rhian is an outdoor dog photography specialist who runs Brighton Dog Photography.

“Photographing dogs in the outdoors can often be a challenging task, but it can be one which is ultimately very rewarding. In this article I’m going to discuss some techniques and points to remember that help me get that perfect shot.

dog photography tips

Patience

It might seem silly to start with a point that has nothing to do with my camera nor with the dog, but having patience is always at the forefront of my mind. Dogs don’t always do or go where you want them to (I frequently only have one hour in which to get a selection of shots of a dog I have only just met, so the pressure is on) and it makes no sense getting frustrated.

The more patient you are to get the shots you are after, the more likely you will get them. It helps if you try and practice with the dog little and often. Depending on the dog they will get bored, and if they do put the camera away, go and do what the dog wants for a bit and then come back and try again.

Realise that it can take many attempts to get what you are after, so patience with yourself and your dog is paramount.

Not a dog person? Don’t worry we have plenty of photography tips for people too.

Adobe CS6 Prices Revealed: Creative Cloud Takes Centre Stage

We have been using the Photoshop CS6 Beta for a month now and admit that it is an impressive release. Now, Adobe have revealed the full Creative Suite 6 Package will feature updates to all key products including Illustrator, InDesign and Premiere.

As anticipated, shelling out for the full CS6 Master Collection will be pricey – £2,668 for new buyers, £476 to upgrade – which puts CS6 out of reach for a number of potential buyers. This year Adobe have provided a solution to this problem: Creative Cloud.

Adobe Photoshop CS6 Creative Cloud

Adobe Creative Cloud – Selling the Mobile Apps

Launched in 2011, Creative Cloud was originally marketed alongside Adobe’s range of mobile Apps. Signing up to Adobe’s cloud service would allow users access to all of Adobe’s tools on desktops, tablets and smartphones. Adobe Photoshop CS6 – New Features

After a few months of sneak peek videos on YouTube, Adobe have just released a Beta version of Photoshop CS6. Adobe have really gone to town on the popular image editing package and have not only added a host of new features but dramatically increased processing speeds. This is great news for those of you who thought the new features would slow Photoshop down and make it too clunky to use.

We downloaded the Photoshop CS6 Beta on the first day and have been excitedly getting used to it ever since, and over the next few weeks we will be showing our favourite features. In part 1 we look at the interface, video editing and blur functions in Photoshop CS6.

As with all our creative training courses we will start using CS6 on our Photoshop courses as soon as it is released in full. We always endeavour to keep our training as up to date as possible. This is even more important for courses such as Photoshop Training, InDesign Training and Illustrator Training where it is vital to use the most up to date packages and skills to compete in the market.

1. New Darker Photoshop Interface

The most striking change to Photoshop is the interface:

This new darker scheme is so that images stand out more when you are editing them, which actually works. This also brings Photoshop in line with other Adobe products that have used the dark grey interface for a while.

2. Photoshop CS6 Video Editing

It was only a month ago that Adobe posted a video on YouTube created with Photoshop. No information accompanied this video so it was mere speculation as to whether this huge step forward would appear in CS6 or in a later version of Photoshop.

Well, I can happily announce that it is present in the Beta and it is really easy to use! Read the rest of "Adobe Photoshop CS6 – New Features"

Photoshop CS6 – Video Editing?

“The following video was created entirely in a future version of Photoshop…”

Adobe have recently released another three sneak peeks of ‘future’ Photoshop (rumoured to be CS6). The first two pick up some small details and new functions, but the third is the most exciting one despite containing little to no information.

Book Photoshop Training with InDesign Training for only £667 + vat (normally £890) or with InDesign Training + Illustrator Training for £890 + vat (normally £1,335).

Video on Photoshop!

Just as we thought that Photoshop CS6 would be a fantastic tool because of the number of fixes and new tools, Adobe come along and blow this out of the water by announcing support for video editing. Previously we have noticed that CS6 will borrow elements from Illustrator and Indesign, will it also borrow (or improve upon) Adobe After Effects and Premiere?

The above video contains filters, transitions and a number of framing options. It is unclear exactly how malleable the process will be but even if Photoshop just featured the examples in the video it would be an impressive tool for amateur video producers, especially for those who are already familiar with Photoshop.

Responding to New Technology

Many of you may be wondering why Adobe needs to add video to Photoshop when they already have separate products available. One reason could be that the majority of new digital cameras now come with packaged with high quality video. Even the latest iPhone and iPad are capable of shooting HD video up to 1080p. The quality of video on some DSLRs rivals high end camcorders from recent years. Photography Tips – A Different Point of View

We don’t always talk about Photoshop Training and InDesign Training, sometimes we talk about photography! In this post, Heather Buckley gives her tips on shooting photographs from ‘A Different Point of View’…

I’ve been asked to name, judge and instruct a group of photographers’ work in response to a theme. The attendees will be of mixed ability some just starting out and some experienced photographers.

I’ve decided on the theme “A different point of view” because experimenting with the infinite possibilities in which something can be viewed often leads to capturing an image that is simply different. It forces the photographer to examine endless ways in which an object, person or environment can be seen and come up with something that will capture the viewer’s imagination.

Tim Andrews - Alternative Viewpoints

This is an image of Tim Andrews, a retired solicitor who has been diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. He has got nearly 200 photographers to take his picture now. To get this image I am leaning over the next lane and placing the camera in the middle of his lane. Try taking images from places you cannot get to but you can place your camera.

Even the most experienced of photographers can get stuck in a rut. When you eventually develop something that resembles a style, a way of looking at things that others recognise as being “your thing” it’s easy to start looking at everything in the same way. Repeating your successes, and automatically taking an image in a particular way.

In many ways this can take the fun out of photography. For me the best kicks happen when you try something completely off the wall, not really knowing if it’s going to work or not and landing an ace. Of course there will be many failures along the way, even famous names have bad days, a card full of 2′s of spades, void of those exhilarating aces.

Winning Tips for Wildlife Photography

photoshop-trainingIn this guest post Daniel Padavona looks at how you can achieve higher quality wildlife photos, looking at equipment, set up and approach. It is often frustrating to return from a photography trip only to realise that some of your favourite compositions have not coming out as well as you hoped. Attend one of our Lightroom Training or Photoshop Training courses, and learn how to enhance your photos after taking them to get the best out of your photography.

Wildlife Photography is an art form which requires major time and equipment investment. Very early morning shoots are common in the quest for the right lighting. Lugging heavy camera equipment through a dark forest to reach your destination by sunrise is also common.

The art form of wildlife photography requires specialized camera equipment, a steady hand, a knowledge of wildlife activity, and patience. In this article I will share some of my favorite tips for getting great wildlife pictures while in the field.

Lens Choice

A lot of reach is required to effectively photograph wildlife. I won’t go into the field with anything less than a 200mm zoom reach. And honestly I prefer 400mm.

Longer reach will open up possibilities, but I find them less necessary with cameras now pushing over 20 megapixels. With a 16 megapixel Canon 1D Mark IV I can bring a 400mm lens into the field and shoot at 4896 x 3264 pixels. If I crop the image in Photoshop to 2448 x 1632 pixels, I will have effectively produced an 800mm zoom.

I would rather go for less reach, and pay a little extra for image stabilization in my lens. A lot of my wildlife photography is hand held, so image stabilization is important for keeping my images sharp. Read the rest of "Winning Tips for Wildlife Photography"

Photoshop Sneak Peek #3 – Dotted and dashed vector lines

Adobe have responded to a ‘long time ask’ from Photoshop users to improve vector functionality by adding dashed and dotted lines.

Illustrator has always been Adobe’s primary vector design software but this development shows that more users want to combine elements from both tools.

If you are looking to become proficient with the full Adobe range then we offer discounts when you book Adobe Photoshop Training with InDesign Training and Illustrator Training or any combination of the three. Learning how to use all three products will help you understand how they function together and allow you to work seamlessly within Adobe Creative Suite.

Here is the video in full from Photoshop Product Manager Zorana Gee:

It is interesting that Adobe are choosing to combine two previously separate tools – Bitmap and vector editing. However, it is clear from comments on the video that Photoshop users who clamour for these changes don’t really understand the differences between Illustrator and Photoshop – it is likely a lot of them only own Photoshop and not the full Creative Suite package.

Have you seen the previous Photoshop CS6 Sneak Peek videos?

This latest feature does improve Photoshop but does not improve Creative Suite as a whole as it is already present in Illustrator. Does this give an insight into Adobe’s future? Read the rest of "Photoshop Sneak Peek #3 – Dotted and dashed vector lines"

Shooting Awesome Photos on Your Cruise

Make sure your holiday photos are good enough to show off with a Photoshop course. Adobe’s powerful image editing software is great for bringing out the best in your photos and highlighting details you may have missed – as demonstrated in the Photoshop CS6 preview video where a poor quality mobile shot of the Eiffel Tower is turned into something to be proud of. First though, you want to take some great photos, here are some tips for cruise photography that can also be applied to travelling in general…

Good news for the young and the young at heart! Cruises are no longer just for middle-aged couples and aging members of the upper class. The 21st Century cruiser can be any age; single, coupled up or with a family in tow. Today they’re usually in search of easy going travels, entertainment and enlightenment whilst seeing the world in style.

You see, many modern cruisers are not climbing aboard in order to sit on deck 24/7 for the next two weeks and have their every need waited on: they want to experience the wonders of the world with no need to worry about lugging an oversized rucksack around or dealing with rammed and rickety transport between destinations.

Not only that, but the modern day cruiser wants to make memories that will last a lifetime, which is good, because a cruise presents the perfect opportunity for practicing your photography skills.

If you want to remember the sights and scenes of your cruise and its port calls forever, read on for our top tips to help you shoot awesome snapshots on and off the deck.

Travel Light

While we’d all like to utilise our best equipment for every shot, you didn’t embark on your cruise to be crippled down with the weight of half a camera shop. Read the rest of "Shooting Awesome Photos on Your Cruise"
